George Orwell
George Orwell was born as Arthur Blair in India in 1903. George was born to be a novelist, but he bite off more than he could chew. He was also a critic and used his works as a way to analyze the world around him. George became best known for his novels Animal Farm and 1984. He was born the son of a British civil servant and spent his first few months of his life in India where his father was. His mother brought him to England about a year after his birth. His father stayed behind in India (until his father retired from service in 1912.)
As a child Orwell spent his first few years as a sick child. He often battled the flu and bronchitis. Although that never stopped him from writing at an early age. Orwell wrote later "I had the lonely child habit of making up stories and holding conversations with imaginary persons." But like many other boys in England Orwell was quickly sent to boarding school. At the school; Orwell had noticed that the school treated the students that were richer better than the ones that came from a lower class. Orwell wasn't much of a popular student but he found fascination in books.
Orwell married Eileen O'Shaughnessy until her death in 1945. Orwell had an open marriage, and had a number of other women. in 1944 the couple adopted a son, Richard Horatio Blair; named after Orwell's ancestors. Their son was raised by Orwell's sister Avril after Eileen's death. Almost the end of his life Orwell married to editor Sonia Brownell. They married in 1950, later he died Brownell inherited Orwell's money and made a career out of managing his legacy.
In the beginning Orwell struggled to get his writing career rolling. Although he took odd jobs to make ends meet he got the ability to write about the lower working class. Orwell is best known for the novels Animal Farm and 1984. These novels were published toward the end of his career. Animal Farm was a Satire in a farm setting. The book setting features two pigs who are to represent Josef Stalin and Leon Trotsky. 1984 was to be written as a world divided into three nations that stirred up controversy.
